Heretics, the latest novel by Cuban writer Leonardo Padura, will be released in Spain next September. published by Tusquets.

Padura has invested over two years in this new literary adventure was conceived on a great parable about freedom and human condition. His research and environmental documentaries have taken him from Holland to Miami, where he toured various cemeteries months ago looking for clues to the narrative.

The story begins in 1640 at the age of Rembrandt’s studio in Amsterdam and ends in contemporary Havana. The central character a Polish Jew who lived for three decades in Cuba. There occurs an event that triggers the plot of the novel, and again linking the two banks Cuban: Havana and Miami.

After the international success of his previous novel, The Man Who Loved Dogs (2009), Jonathan Cape Heretics launched amid high expectations for the new literary production Padura awarded the National Literature Prize 2012. The reading of the novel will be promoted through the list of books recommended by the English Court, which currently has the largest network of libraries of Spain.

Heretics will be released accompanied by a booklet called Freedom as heresy, some notations concerning the art of the novel.

Padura is these days in Havana outlining several film projects and TV series inspired by his novels, which should begin shooting in the coming months.

NUEVA NOVELA de Leonardo Padura: “Herejes”

Herejes, la más reciente novela del escritor cubano Leonardo Padura, saldrá al mercado el próximo septiembre en España. publicada por la editorial Tusquets.

Padura ha invertido más de dos años en esta nueva aventura literaria que fue concebida sobre una gran parábola sobre la libertad como condición humana. Sus investigaciones documentales y de ambiente lo han llevado desde Holanda a Miami, donde recorrió varios cementerios meses atrás buscando claves para la narración.

La historia comienza en la época de 1640 en el estudio de Rembrandt en Amsterdam y termina en La Habana contemporánea. El personaje central un judío polaco que vivió durante tres décadas en Cuba. Allí ocurre un suceso que desencadena la trama de la novela, y que unirá otra vez las dos orillas cubanas: La Habana y Miami.

Tras el éxito internacional de su anterior novela, El hombre que amaba a los perros (2009), Tusquets lanzará Herejes en medio de una alta expectativa por la nueva producción literaria de Padura, galardonado con el Premio Nacional de Literatura 2012. La lectura de la novela será promovida a través de la lista de libros recomendados por El Corte Inglés, que cuenta actualmente con la mayor red de librerías de España.

Herejes saldrá a la venta acompañado por un folleto titulado La libertad como herejía, unas apostillas sobre el arte de la novela.

Padura está por estos días en La Habana perfilando varios proyectos cinematográficos y series de televisión inspirados en sus novelas, y que deben comenzar a rodarse en los próximos meses.
